THINK-PAIR-SHARE

Definition of the Activity:

Students initiallyform an opinion about the topic among themselves, and then share all these opinions with the whole class.

Purpose of the Activity:

1. To create a learning environment in which speaking, listening and thinking are involved

2.  To make students have interaction with the whole class.

3. To draw students’ attention.

4. To improve students’ problem solving skills both individually and within a group

5. To make shy students participate in the class.

Implementation Steps:

1. Ask students a question about the topic, and also ask them to write their ideas on a paper.

2. Ask students to share their ideas with different people as a pair work.

3. Ask students to write the common idea which comes out from each pair work.

4. Lastly, ask them to share their appropriate ideas about the topic in the class.

 

Evaluation:

The main purpose of this activity is to create an effectivecommunication medium by which studentscarry out by both listening and speaking. In order to specify whether this activity has reached its own goal or not, self -regulation form might be used. In this form, the output of learning which is expected to happen at the end of the activity is listed, and students are asked to state which one among them has occurred among themselves.

Additional Information:

This activity allows students to think about the problems, to share what they know, and to create new ideas by sharing what they know. Thanks to this activity, students are provided a chance to talk about the topic by breaking the class routine. Each bilateral meeting time should approximately be between 1-3 min.
