USING VIDEOS TO PIQUE THE STUDENTS INTEREST

Description of the Activity:

 

There are many ways of using videos in order to draw the attention of students to the subject or topic. Watching videos about an idea or a subject area helps the students establish a connection between the things they care about and the subject while also ensuring visual and audial learning. One of the effective ways of using videos as an active learning tool is to show them videos of popular or recognizable films related to an important subject or topic.

 

Purpose of the Activity:

 

1. To help the students acquire active listening skills.

2. To focus and increase the attention of the students.

3. To enable the students to form creative answers.

 

Implementation Steps:

1. A video that is thought to be related to the topic is chosen.

2. Title and explanations are added to the video if necessary.

3. The place of the video is identified within the process of the class.

4. The video is presented at a suitable time.

 

Evaluation:

 

The purpose of this activity is to draw the students’ attention with the help of showing them videos related to the subject matter and help the students acquire the active listening skill in the activity. A question paper that includes the questions related to the subject matter is given to the students having presented the video and their answers are requested in order to evaluate whether the activity ensures the aim.

 

Additional Information:

 

The activity may require video editing skills. Following the video’s visual presentation, a discussion environment may be created by eliciting the opinions of the students. The total amount of time regarding the whole activity should exceed 20 minutes.
