What is Active Learning?
Active learning occurs when the learners bear the responsibility of learning process, the learners are given the opportunity to take decisions on various aspects of learning process and to make self-regulation. In active learning process learners are forced to use their mental abilities with complex educational work ( Ün Açıkgöz, 2002).
Students in active learning are not passive recipients they are rather individuals who have shaped their lives by learning. Students must do more than listening in the classroom; they should read, write, talk, argue, should establish links with broad experiences, should apply gained knowledge to daily life and must solve problems.
Active learning is a process in which students get the true knowledge and different ideas actively and where the students acquire and develop the necessary skills to complete duties and activities during the class. Any activity that includes students in learning process can be called active learning. HOWEVER APPORTIONING THE SUBJECTS AMONG THE STUDENTS AND MAKING THEM PRESENT THE SUBJECT IS NOT ACTIVE LEARNING. Because active learning covers “the students actively doing something and thinking critically about what they are doing.”
